Pick your parade viewing spot
Every Magic Kingdom parade now lives in Magic Carpet as what it really is: a moving show that travels a route through the park. For example, today the Festival of Fantasy Parade starts in Frontierland at 2:00, and the front of it reaches Town Square around 2:25. Where you stand decides when you’ll see it, how long you’ll wait, and what the rest of your day looks like around it. With this update, that choice is yours to make, and your whole schedule is built around it.
Choose where you’ll watch from
Parades now have their own section on the Attractions screen (look for the drum). When a parade is in your plan, tap the pin icon and a full-screen map opens: the parade route drawn through the park, with a selectable pin at each viewing spot. Each spot is tagged with the thing it’s best at: Castle View at the Town Square flagpole, Most Efficient at the Frontierland parade gate, Most Shade in Liberty Square, Most Popular at the hub in front of the castle.
Your schedule knows when the parade reaches you
Once you’ve picked a spot, everything downstream uses it. The show time on your schedule is the moment the front of the parade reaches your spot. The walk goes to your spot. The wait you see is the wait you’ll actually experience. And the moment the last float passes you, your plan moves on to the next thing.
Arrival works the way parade crowds actually work: good spots are claimed before the parade starts, wherever you’re standing. So the optimizer aims to get you in place 20 to 60 minutes before the parade begins its route. Standing further along the route just means a little more time holding your spot. And if you finish the previous thing early once your claiming window is open, the Live Guide sends you straight onward to stake it out.
The trade-off between spots is real, and now it’s visible. From the Frontierland parade gate, the parade reaches you one minute after it starts. On a recent test day, the whole Adventure Friends Cavalcade cost nine minutes of standing still: a four-minute wait, the full cavalcade, and straight back to the rides while everyone downstream was still camped on the curb. From the Town Square flagpole, the parade takes its whole 25-minute journey to reach you, and the reward is the castle framed behind every float, with the park exit steps away when it’s over.
The details it gets right
The duration your schedule uses is how long the parade takes to pass you: about 11 minutes for Festival of Fantasy and 13 for Disney Starlight, so a parade takes exactly as much of your day as it really takes. And Disney Starlight gets special handling, because it runs the same route as the daytime parades in the opposite direction, from Town Square out to Frontierland, which flips which spots see it first. Magic Carpet knows, right down to the nights when its second showing runs the route the traditional way.
